Installation

Install the Mac app, the terminal app, or both.

Mac app

Requirements

The Mac app runs on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 26 or later.

Installing

Download the latest disk image from reviewer.sh/download. It is also attached to every GitHub release.

Open the disk image and drag Reviewer into Applications.

Open Reviewer. It asks which repository to open first.

Every release is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without a warning.

The app brings its own copy of Node.js and of the Reviewer server. You don't need to install anything else.

Updating

The app checks for new versions on its own and offers each one as it ships. The changelog lists what every release changed.

Terminal app

Requirements

The terminal app runs on macOS and Linux, on both arm64 and x64. It works in any terminal, but a few things are better in some than others:

  • ⌘ shortcuts need a terminal that supports the kitty keyboard protocol, such as Ghostty, kitty, WezTerm, or iTerm2 with CSI u turned on. Every ⌘ shortcut has a ⌃ or plain-key alternative for other terminals.
  • File icons need a Nerd Font, version 3.0 or later.

Installing

Run the install script:

curl -fsSL https://reviewer.sh/install | bash

It installs Reviewer into ~/.reviewer, along with the Reviewer server and the Node.js it runs on. You don't need the Mac app, Node.js or Bun installed.

Then, inside any repository:

reviewer

Updating

The terminal app checks for a newer release when it starts and every few hours after that, and tells you when one is out. To update, choose Update Reviewer in the command palette (⌘K), then Restart Reviewer once it has installed. From the shell, you can do the same with:

reviewer upgrade
reviewer --version

Building from source

If you have a checkout of the repository, you can build the terminal app yourself. It is compiled into one self-contained binary and placed in ~/.local/bin:

pnpm install
pnpm install:tui

To install it somewhere else, set BIN_DIR:

BIN_DIR=/usr/local/bin pnpm install:tui

Run the same command again to update it.
